The Trust Test Stand project is designed to characterize the battery-motor-propeller relationship for various configurations of an experimental cargo aircraft. This project aims to optimize propulsion performance and efficiency by systematically analyzing how different combinations affect thrust generation.
As part of this project, I am responsible for developing the test stand, which enables precise measurements of thrust across different operational conditions. This includes designing detailed CAD models and conducting simulations to ensure the test stand meets necessary engineering standards.
The project seeks to find the optimal configuration by integrating key variables such as power, voltage, and current of the battery supplying the electric motor, motor RPM, propeller pitch, and environmental conditions, all of which I analyze using a MATLAB application. By defining comprehensive testing protocols, we can gain a deeper understanding of the aircraft's propulsion performance.
By incorporating sensors and data acquisition systems, the test stand provides real-time data on thrust performance and battery characteristics, enabling to draw meaningful conclusions regarding the optimal configuration for our experimental cargo aircraft.
